Divvy — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Divvy mobile application (“Divvy”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information. By using Divvy you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

Divvy is an expense-splitting app that helps groups of people track shared expenses and settle debts.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what is needed to run the app:

Name	To create your account and show you in groups
Email address	Account sign-in, account creation, and password reset
Account ID	A unique identifier for your account and your data
Expense data you enter	Amounts, descriptions, categories, splits, and balances — the core function of the app
UPI ID / PayPal username	Optional — only if you add them, to enable “settle up” payment links
Device push token	A device identifier used to support notifications

We do not collect your phone number, contacts, location, photos, or precise device identifiers for advertising.

3. How we use your information

Your information is used only to:

• Create and secure your account
• Let you create groups, add expenses, and view balances
• Calculate who owes whom and simplify debts
• Provide analytics, budgets, and CSV exports of your own data
• Open your UPI or PayPal app pre-filled when you choose to settle up

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your data.

4. Where your data is stored

Divvy uses Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), a service provided by Google LLC. Your data is stored on Google Cloud servers. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted at rest by Google Cloud.

5. Sharing your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. Your data is shared only:

• With other members of your groups — they can see shared expenses, descriptions, and balances within groups you both belong to. This is the intended function of the app.
• With Google Firebase — as our cloud infrastructure provider.
• When required by law — if compelled by a valid legal request.

6. Payment information

Divvy does not process payments and does not handle or store your money, card numbers, or bank details. The “settle up” feature only opens a third-party app (your UPI app or PayPal) with payment details pre-filled. Any payment you make happens entirely within that third-party app under their own terms and privacy policies.

7. Data retention and account deletion

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists.

You can delete your account at any time from within the app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and personal profile. For shared group history to remain consistent for other members, expenses you were part of are retained but your identity is replaced with an anonymous “Deleted User” label.

8. Your rights

• Access and edit your profile information in the app
• Export your group expense data as a CSV file at any time
• Delete your account and personal data as described above

9. Children's privacy

Divvy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and authentication, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
